The Carolina Hurricanes have secured a key piece of their future, signing forward Logan Stankoven to an eight-year, $48 million contract extension. The deal, announced Tuesday, carries an average annual value of $6 million.

Stankoven, 22, was acquired by the Hurricanes in a trade that sent Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars on March 7. He quickly made an impact in Carolina, tallying nine points (five goals, four assists) in 19 games.

A second-round pick (No. 47) by Dallas in the 2021 NHL Draft, Stankoven has accumulated 52 points (20 goals, 32 assists) in 102 regular-season games with the Stars and Hurricanes. He also brings valuable playoff experience, with 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) in 34 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Prior to signing this extension, Stankoven had one year remaining on his entry-level contract, which he signed with Dallas in September 2021. This new deal signifies the Hurricanes' commitment to Stankoven as a long-term fixture in their lineup.

It is expected that the right-shot forward will likely get middle-six minutes with a chance to move up in the lineup.

The Hurricanes' decision to lock up Stankoven long-term underscores his importance to the team's future plans. His blend of skill, scoring touch, and playoff experience makes him a valuable asset as the Hurricanes aim to contend for championships. This contract extension provides Stankoven with stability and the opportunity to further develop his game in a promising environment.
