Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a five-nation tour, signaling a strong emphasis on strengthening ties with the Global South. The tour, which began on July 2nd, 2025, includes visits to Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia and will continue until July 9th. This diplomatic outreach aims to deepen partnerships, enhance cooperation across various sectors, and reaffirm India's commitment to multilateral platforms.

The Prime Minister's first stop was Ghana, marking the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit in three decades. He was welcomed by President John Dramani Mahama with a ceremonial reception. Discussions in Ghana are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in areas such as investment, energy, health, security, capacity building, and development partnerships. Modi also addressed the Parliament of Ghana, underscoring the shared democratic values between the two nations.

Continuing his journey, the Prime Minister will visit Trinidad and Tobago, a nation with strong ancestral and cultural connections to India. This visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister since 1999, aims to rejuvenate the bonds of kinship and expand bilateral cooperation. Modi is scheduled to meet with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Next on the itinerary is Argentina, where Modi will meet President Javier Milei. This marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. Discussions will focus on advancing mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.

A key highlight of the tour is the BRICS Summit in Brasilia, Brazil. As a founding member, India is committed to BRICS as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies. The summit will provide an opportunity to work with Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva on advancing the priorities of the Global South and to meet with several world leaders. In addition to the BRICS Summit, Modi will also have a bilateral state visit to Brasilia, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades, to further strengthen the partnership with Brazil.

The final stop on the tour is Namibia, where Modi will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. India and Namibia share a common history of struggle against colonialism. Modi will address the Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament, underscoring the enduring solidarity and shared commitment to freedom and development. This visit aims to chart a new roadmap for cooperation, benefiting the wider Global South.

This five-nation tour demonstrates India's commitment to strengthening its engagement with the Global South. By focusing on enhanced cooperation, reaffirming multilateral partnerships, and addressing shared priorities, Prime Minister Modi's visit seeks to reinforce bonds of friendship and deepen engagements across the Atlantic.
