The news today is dominated by several significant events, ranging from a devastating air disaster to a disturbing incident at a tech company, a horrifying crime in Kolkata, and the ongoing India vs. England test series.

Air India Plane Crash

A preliminary report on the Air India crash that killed at least 270 people, including 241 on board, is expected to be released by July 11. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is leading the investigation into the Ahmedabad plane crash and the report is expected to be four to five pages long, offering initial insights into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The report will include key details such as the aircraft type (Boeing 787) and information about the crew.

The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed just after taking off from Ahmedabad on a flight to London Gatwick. Ahmedabad airport CCTV footage showed the aircraft was only airborne for 32 seconds from the time the landing gear left the runway to the moment of impact. The crash site was a scene of devastation, with debris strewn across the area. The black box, which is actually orange in color for visibility, was recovered from the rooftop of a building at the crash site.

The data from the black boxes, including the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder, has been successfully downloaded and is being analyzed. Despite sustaining damage in the crash, the data recovery process was successful. The investigation team includes members from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.

Infosys Techie Incident

In Bengaluru, an Infosys techie was arrested for allegedly filming women in the company's washroom. The 30-year-old, Nagesh Swapnil Mali, was caught red-handed by a woman employee who noticed suspicious activity. The woman filed a First Information Report (FIR), leading to his arrest. Police are investigating whether there are more victims and have sent his mobile phone to a forensic lab to retrieve deleted content. This incident has raised serious questions about the privacy and safety of women in the workplace and highlights the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents.

Monojit Mishra Case

The Kolkata Police are investigating the rape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College, and have added charges including kidnapping and wrongful confinement against Monojit Mishra, the main accused, and two other students. Mishra is an alumnus of the college. The police told the court that Mishra is influential and could hamper the investigation if released.

Monojit Mishra's terror on campus was such that female students feared him and sometimes skipped classes to avoid him. Mishra's father claimed that his son was a good student and that is why he became an advocate. A batchmate of Monojit Mishra revealed that Mishra engaged in ragging and bullying and was eventually removed from the college. The police have collected call data records and CCTV footage as part of their investigation.

India vs. England Test Series

India is currently playing a test series against England. Shubman Gill's century on Day 1 of the second test helped India reach 310/5. Gill remained unbeaten overnight on 114, while Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed a brilliant 87. However, India is trailing 0-1 in the five-match series after failing to defend 371 in the first test. Dropped catches and the performance of India's lower order have been identified as areas of concern.
