Lt. Gen. Rahul Singh, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability Development & Sustenance), has lauded the India-Pakistan ceasefire as a "masterly stroke". Speaking at the 'New Age Military Technologies' event organized by FICCI, Lt. Gen. Singh highlighted the complexities of warfare, emphasizing that "it's easy to start a war, but very difficult to control". He underscored the importance of halting conflict once military and political objectives are achieved.
Furthermore, Lt. Gen. Rahul Singh revealed that Pakistan had been urging a ceasefire due to internal pressures and the sustained Indian military operations under Operation Sindoor. He also pointed out Pakistan's reliance on Chinese support for its military capabilities, noting that 81% of its hardware is sourced from China.
In related news, during the conflict between India and Pakistan, triggered by an attack on Hindu tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir in April, Lt. Gen. Rahul Singh stated that China provided "live inputs" to Pakistan on key Indian positions. He mentioned that during DGMO (director general of military operations) level talks, Pakistan indicated knowledge of specific Indian vectors primed for action, suggesting real-time intelligence sharing from China. He also noted that Turkey provided support to Pakistan during the fighting with Bayraktar drones and trained individuals.
Lt. Gen. Singh's statements shed light on the strategic considerations behind the ceasefire and the external factors influencing the conflict. He stressed the importance of being on top of the escalation ladder and stopping the war at an appropriate time upon reaching political-military objectives. He also emphasized that India needs to be prepared for all types of warfare, including the use of non-state actors and the integration of technology and innovation.
