In a joint operation, the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police busted a terrorist hideout in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The hideout was located in the Surankote forests. During the search operation, a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.
The security forces recovered three hand grenades, 14 rounds of AK assault rifle, and six pistol rounds. Additionally, they found a wire cutter, a multi-purpose knife, a multi-data cable connector, five pencil cells, an iron rod, and a paint box. No arrests were made during the operation.
Security forces have destroyed the recovered cache of arms and ammunition using controlled explosions. Authorities are investigating the origins of the arms and ammunition and the intended purpose of the hideout. Police are looking into forward and backward linkages to determine the module's purpose and how the cache of arms and ammunition reached the location. A massive search operation is underway in the Surankote area to rule out the possibility of other active terrorists in the area.
In Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Police attached a property acquired through illegal proceeds linked to terrorist activities. The property, worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore, is located in Mir Masjid Mohalla, Shallabagh, in the Khanyar locality. It is registered under the name of Mohammad Yousuf Shah and is currently possessed by his son, Masood Hussain Shah. Investigations revealed that the property was acquired through illegal proceeds linked to terrorist activities. The owner is now prohibited from selling, leasing, or transferring the property.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorist operation in the forest area of Chatroo in the Kishtwar district has entered its fourth day. The operation began on Wednesday evening after security forces confronted a group of hiding terrorists. The terrorists fled, taking advantage of darkness, thick foliage, and challenging topography. A search operation is underway.
These operations reflect the intensified security measures being undertaken in sensitive border regions of Jammu and Kashmir. The successful dismantling of the terror hideout in Poonch, along with the seizure of illegally acquired property in Srinagar, demonstrates the commitment of security forces to counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
The operation in Poonch took place ahead of the annual Shri Budha Amarnath Yatra to ensure enhanced security for the upcoming pilgrimage.
