A recent murder in Amritsar, Punjab, has ignited speculation and investigations into potential links with the assassination of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022. Jugraj Singh, was killed as a result of a village turf war in Amritsar. Initial reports erroneously identified Jugraj Singh as the brother of an individual suspected of involvement in Moose Wala's murder.
Sidhu Moose Wala, a popular Punjabi musician, was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village of Mansa. The incident occurred when unidentified assailants ambushed his car. At the time of his death, Moose Wala was 28 years old.
Following Moose Wala's murder, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility in an unverified Facebook post. However, Bishnoi denied making the post, though he was considered a mastermind by officials. According to police reports, the Bishnoi gang stated that the murder was in retaliation for the death of Akali Youth leader Vicky Middukhera in 2021. The Bishnoi gang alleged Moose Wala's aide had a role in Middukhera's killing, although no legal evidence supports this claim. Canadian gangster Satinder Singh, also known as Goldy Brar, who is closely associated with Bishnoi, also claimed responsibility, asserting that his "Punjab module" carried out the shooting.
The murder of Sidhu Moose Wala remains a sensitive and highly discussed topic, with investigations ongoing and numerous individuals arrested in connection with the case. The Punjab Police have arrested 23 accused in the case. In September 2022, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab targeting suspected terror gangs linked to the Moose Wala killing. However, NIA sources clarified that the agency is not directly investigating the murder.
Recent developments in the Moose Wala case include the arrest of a woman in Mumbai for allegedly aiding Deepak Tinu, an accused in the murder, to escape. Additionally, two gangsters linked to the Moose Wala case were killed in a jail clash in Goindwal Sahib Central Jail in Punjab's Tarn Taran district.
The investigation into Moose Wala's murder has led to increased security for officers involved, with 12 officers of Delhi Police's Special Cell receiving Y-category protection. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, implicated in the murder, has been moved to a high-security jail in Gujarat in connection with a drugs case.
The recent murder in Amritsar has stirred public attention and prompted authorities to examine any potential connections to the Moose Wala case. The incident underscores the complexities and ongoing investigations surrounding the high-profile assassination.
