Modi, who is currently in Brazil for a four-day visit to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit and a state visit, was greeted with a vibrant welcome from the Indian community upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro.
The Prime Minister shared his appreciation on social media, noting his amazement at the Indian diaspora's enduring connection to their roots. He highlighted the warm welcome he received in Rio de Janeiro, emphasizing the community's passion for India's progress. Glimpses of the welcome were also shared on social media.
The Indian community in Brazil organized a special cultural performance centered around "Operation Sindoor" to welcome PM Modi. This performance, including a song by Prasoon Joshi, showcased the diaspora's solidarity with India, particularly in light of events such as the Pulwama attack and subsequent military actions. The Prime Minister also witnessed a musical performance of traditional prayer songs.
Members of the Indian diaspora expressed their excitement and honor in meeting Prime Minister Modi. One member described it as an "amazing experience" and felt "so happy" to meet him, also mentioning that he blessed her daughter. Another member highlighted the rare opportunity to meet such a significant leader face-to-face. An Indian youth who met PM Modi spoke of learning about dancing and described it as a truly amazing experience.
Shakti Groups Chairman and Managing Director Shreyans Goyal commented on PM Modi's visit, expressing his belief in the advancement of the Prime Minister's vision for Brazil and India and anticipating India's rise to a leading global position.
Other members of the Indian diaspora in Brazil also shared their sentiments, warmly welcoming the Prime Minister and acknowledging the establishment of the International Day of Yoga as a bridge between India and Brazil. They emphasized the importance of the BRICS platform on the global stage and expressed appreciation for PM Modi's efforts in uniting countries to address global challenges and his work towards creating a unified and peaceful human society. Some members also noted their shared Gujarati heritage with PM Modi.
PM Modi's visit includes participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, followed by a state visit to Brasilia, marking the first such visit by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly 60 years.
