In a groundbreaking achievement, India's first all-women mine rescue team has emerged as a symbol of empowerment and a testament to the evolving landscape of the mining industry. This pioneering team, formed by Hindustan Zinc Limited, has not only shattered stereotypes but has also garnered international recognition for their exceptional skills and unwavering determination.

The seven-member team made history by representing India at the XIII International Mine Rescue Competition in Colombia, marking the first time an all-women team from India has competed on such a prestigious global stage. The competition, organized by Colombia's National Mining Agency in collaboration with the International Mines Rescue Body (IMRB), featured over 20 teams from eight nations and involved rescue drills and tests that simulate critical underground mine rescue scenarios.

The team competed across six categories, showcasing their expertise in mine rescue drills in both breathing and non-breathing atmospheres, first aid, mining rescue skills, equipment technician tests, and theoretical knowledge evaluations. Their dedication and rigorous training paid off as they secured second place in the women's taskforce category. This achievement is a significant milestone for India and Hindustan Zinc, highlighting the capabilities of women in the mining sector.

Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Limited, expressed immense pride in the team's accomplishment, stating, "Our women in mining have achieved something truly unprecedented. As the first all-women team to represent India, they have brought international recognition to our country. Competing against more than 20 teams in a gender-neutral environment, these remarkable women have made India proud. This achievement highlights that women possess equal capability, showcasing their grit and determination."

Team members also shared their excitement and gratitude. Nehal Solanki described the experience as "surreal," adding, "It's surreal to make history as India's first women's team on this global stage and to secure a second-place finish. I am grateful for Hindustan Zinc's support throughout my journey." Sandhya Singh remarked, "Seeing the Indian flag raised in Colombia was a proud moment. The competition challenged us, and this recognition validates our hard work. I'm thankful for Hindustan Zinc's initiatives that are opening new doors for women in mining."

Hindustan Zinc's commitment to gender diversity and inclusion is evident in its efforts to create opportunities for women in all aspects of its operations. The company's focus on safety is also paramount, as demonstrated by the rigorous training provided to the mine rescue team. The team underwent specialized training at the Mine Rescue Station in Nagpur, covering key areas such as mine emergency situations, first aid, technician tests, and emergency response.

The success of India's first all-women mine rescue team is an inspiration to women across the country and a significant step towards creating a more equitable and inclusive workforce in the mining industry. Their achievement demonstrates that with dedication, training, and equal opportunities, women can excel in any field, even those traditionally dominated by men.
