Sajad Lone claims security rollback targets coalition leaders post-alliance formation, raising concerns about political maneuvering.

Sajad Gani Lone, President of the People's Conference and MLA from Handwara, has alleged that the security cover for key leaders associated with the newly formed People's Alliance for Change (PAC) has been withdrawn. Lone announced the formation of the PAC on June 30, 2025. The alliance includes his People's Conference, the Justice and Development Front (JDF), believed to be a proxy of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), and the People's Democratic Front (PDF).

Lone stated that criticism began surfacing from various sources, including across the Line of Control (LoC), following the alliance's formation. He mentioned Ghulam Mohammad Safi, a veteran Hurriyat figure, and Naseebuddin, a JeI affiliate based across the border, as the first to issue such statements. He also noted a threat from a militant outfit in Pakistan, suggesting the alliance had unsettled actors within and outside Jammu & Kashmir.

Lone directed his strongest criticism towards the administration, accusing it of deliberately withdrawing security cover from senior politicians within the alliance. He reported that former minister Hakeem Yaseen had his security scaled down by 80%. Lone highlighted that Yaseen survived a deadly attack in the 1990s. He also claimed that the security of Sheikh Imran, a party leader, had been similarly reduced. Lone told reporters that this was the first time such a swift and sharp cut had been observed and that it was difficult not to connect the dots, as it happened just three days after the alliance was announced.

Lone indirectly alluded to the PDP, accusing its leadership of arrogance and political insecurity. He questioned their calls for dialogue with Pakistan while allegedly undermining the alliance.

The PAC was formed to address the political and developmental concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The alliance aims to provide a coherent platform to address the region's concerns and ensure a coherent political message. It is described as a movement for transformational change, challenging the status quo and existing power structures in Jammu and Kashmir. The PAC's formation aligns with preparations for upcoming panchayat and municipal elections, indicating a focus on strengthening influence at the local level. The alliance seeks to restore statehood and Articles 370 and 35(A).

The PAC comprises the Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference (JKPC), the Justice and Development Front (JDF), and the People's Democratic Front (PDF). Sajad Lone leads the JKPC. The JDF is backed by former members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, and Hakeem Yasin leads the PDF.

Lone emphasized that the alliance would always work for reinstating the position as it was before August 5, 2019, while also acknowledging that statehood is necessary. He stated that the central government would need to initiate the restoration of J&K's statehood.

Despite the criticism and security concerns, Lone has affirmed the alliance's commitment and unity. He stated that the reactions they are receiving only confirm that they are on the right path. He also accused a prominent regional party of political insecurity.
