Following India's commanding 336-run victory over England in the second Test at Edgbaston, captain Shubman Gill has confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will "definitely" return to the playing XI for the third Test at Lord's. The third Test is scheduled to begin on July 10.

Bumrah was rested for the second Test as part of workload management, despite being available for selection. In his absence, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep led India's bowling attack, helping the team secure a historic win and level the five-match series 1-1. India's victory at Edgbaston marked their first-ever Test win at the venue.

Gill praised the Indian pacers for stepping up in Bumrah's absence. He specifically lauded Akash Deep, who took 10 wickets in the match, including a six-wicket haul in the second innings. Gill noted that Akash Deep bowled with "so much heart" and was able to move the ball both ways, making him difficult to handle on that kind of wicket. Mohammed Siraj also contributed significantly, taking seven wickets in the match.

Gill acknowledged the questions surrounding the team's ability to perform without Bumrah. However, he expressed confidence in the depth of India's talent, stating that the team believes they can take 20 wickets anywhere, regardless of who is in the lineup. Gill also emphasized the importance of the team-first mentality, highlighting the commitment and discipline displayed by the players. He said that he wants to contribute as a batter and thinks as a batter.

With Bumrah's return, Prasidh Krishna is likely to make way. Gill expressed his excitement for the third Test at Lord's, calling it the "most iconic cricket stadium in the world" and noting that it is a dream for every kid to play there. He added that there is no bigger honor than to captain one's country and lead the team at Lord's.
