Matteo Giampa is set to be a key addition to the Miami RedHawks' 2025-26 roster. The right winger transferred to Miami University in late April 2025 after playing his first two college seasons at Canisius University.

Giampa, who stands 6-foot-0 and weighs 176 pounds, quickly established himself as a potent offensive force during his time with the Canisius Griffins. He led the team in scoring in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. In his freshman year (2023-24), he recorded 18 goals and 17 assists for a total of 35 points. In his sophomore year (2024-25), he tallied eight goals and 22 assists, accumulating 30 points. Giampa also served as an assistant captain for the Griffins in the 2024-25 season. He matched a program single-game record with a five-point performance against Mercyhurst in October 2024.

His achievements at Canisius earned him several accolades, including Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the AHA All-Rookie Team in 2023-24. That same year, he was also named to the AHA Second All-Conference Team and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, which recognizes college hockey's top players. Giampa was a two-time nominee for the Hobey Baker Award. Additionally, he earned AHA All-Academic Team recognition in 2023-24. He was also named AHA Player of the Month, Rookie of the Month (twice), and Forward of the Week (twice).

Before his collegiate career, Giampa played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) for the Bonnyville Pontiacs. In 129 games, he recorded 135 points (45 goals and 90 assists). During the 2022-23 season, he had a dominant 92-point campaign (27 goals, 65 assists). That season, he led the AJHL in assists and was named to the AJHL (North) All-Star Team. He was also named the Pontiacs' regular-season MVP and won the team's top scorer and plus-minus awards.

Giampa's offensive capabilities extend beyond even strength, making him a valuable asset on the power play. His ability to read plays, set up teammates, and score goals makes him a versatile offensive weapon for the RedHawks.

Miami University head coach Anthony Noreen's program is adding several new players for the 2025-26 season. The team's season is set to begin on October 3 against Ferris State University at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. Giampa's addition, along with other transfers and a large incoming freshman class, aims to restore the program to its former glory. The RedHawks' roster rebuild is nearing completion with Giampa leading the way.

Giampa also attended the Philadelphia Flyers' development camp in early July 2025, where he showcased his offensive skills.
