Dhyan Sreenivasan's Malayalam mystery comedy, "Detective Ujjwalan," is heading to Netflix and is expected to premiere on July 11, 2025. Netflix officially confirmed the release date with a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the film will be available in Malayalam.

"Detective Ujjwalan" had a moderate run at the box office after its theatrical release on May 23, 2025. The film is directed by Indraneel G and Rahul G, and produced by Sophia Paul under Weekend Blockbusters. It's part of the Weekend Cinematic Universe, which also includes "Minnal Murali". The story is set in Plaachikkaavu, a village near the setting of "Minnal Murali".

The film features Dhyan Sreenivasan as Detective Ujjwalan, a local investigator who handles petty crimes in his village. However, his quiet life is disrupted by a series of unsettling murders, and he must solve the mystery. The cast includes Siju Wilson, Rony David Raj, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G. Nair, Kalabhavan Navas, and Nirmal Palazhi. The technical crew includes cinematographers Prem Akkattu and Sraiyanti, editor Chaman Chacko, and music director Rzee.

"Detective Ujjwalan" shares a connection to Basil Joseph's "Minnal Murali", as both are part of the Weekend Cinematic Universe led by Sophia Paul. The film's connection to "Minnal Murali" is believed to have played a key role in catching Netflix's attention.

The plot revolves around a "Boogeyman" that haunts Plaachikkaavu, a seemingly peaceful neighborhood. Detective Ujjwalan, along with a team of police officers and villagers, is determined to catch the murderer and uncover the truth.

While awaiting the OTT release, there are also reports that ZEE Network has acquired the satellite television rights for the film.
