A 19-year-old student from Tripura, Sneha Debnath, has gone missing in Delhi, prompting immediate action from the Tripura Chief Minister's Office. Debnath, a resident of Sabroom in the South Tripura district and a student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, was last in contact with her family on July 7, 2025.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) in Tripura acknowledged the report of Debnath's disappearance and has directed the police to take immediate and appropriate action. The CMO conveyed this message through an official social media post. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has intervened, giving instructions to the police to act swiftly.
Debnath's last contact with her mother was on the morning of July 7th at 5:56 AM, when she informed her that she was on her way to drop a friend, Pitunia, at the Sarai Rohilla Railway Station for a 6:45 AM train. However, when her mother attempted to contact her again at 8:45 AM, her phone was switched off. The family later discovered that Pitunia had not met Debnath that morning.
According to Debnath's family, a cab driver confirmed that he dropped her off at Signature Bridge. This bridge has a known blind spot due to non-functional CCTV cameras, which is creating difficulty in the investigation. Police have confirmed that the CCTVs on the bridge are not working because they are under maintenance but vendors have not arrived to service them.
Following a request from the Crime Branch, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a seven-kilometer radius search on July 9th, but no trace of Debnath was found. She had no belongings with her except her phone. Further investigation revealed that Debnath has not withdrawn any cash in the past four months, and her small remaining balance remains untouched.
Delhi Police and the NDRF are currently conducting a search operation. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might help locate her.
In Delhi, the Delhi Police have reunited 168 missing people with their families in June as a part of "Operation Milap". 53 children and 115 adults were among those who were reunited with their families. Overall in 2025, 521 missing people have been found and brought back to their families.
