Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir handed over appointment letters to the next of kin of 40 terror victims in Baramulla on Sunday. This action underscores the government's commitment to providing jobs and justice to families affected by terrorism.
During the event, Sinha reiterated the government's dedication to supporting terror victims through jobs, compensation, and thorough inquiry-based redressal mechanisms. He emphasized that the time when family members of terrorists could expect to receive jobs is over. He also highlighted the importance of recognizing the suffering of these families, which has often been deliberately suppressed. The Lieutenant Governor assured that the administration would proactively reach out to families who have been waiting for justice, ensuring their rehabilitation and livelihood.
Sinha shared that he had met with approximately 150 families of terror victims on June 29 in Anantnag, describing the experience as heartbreaking. He spoke of a specific case involving a man killed by terrorists, survived by his wife and three children. While one child received a government job and the wife received financial assistance, the other two children faced hardship. This led to discussions with the Home Minister on how to provide further support to such families.
In addition to the job appointments, Sinha announced the launch of a helpline to assist victims of terror attacks in submitting aid applications. He also pledged to register FIRs where required and return unjustly seized properties to their rightful owners. The Lieutenant Governor addressed the issue of pending FIRs and land encroachment, assuring that culprits would not be spared. He mentioned that the administration is receiving numerous complaints, some dating back to the 1990s, and is committed to addressing these grievances.
Furthermore, collateral-free loans of up to Rs 20 lakh will be made available to victims for entrepreneurial ventures. This initiative aims to empower victims and provide them with opportunities for self-sufficiency.
The event in Baramulla marks a significant step towards acknowledging and supporting the terror victims in Jammu and Kashmir. By providing jobs, financial assistance, and addressing long-pending grievances, the government aims to bring justice and relief to those who have suffered due to terrorism.
