Mumbai police have arrested an airline employee following accusations of rape made by a 23-year-old air hostess from Mira-Bhayander. The air hostess alleged that the incident occurred at the residence of the accused in the early hours of June 30th. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the two had gone out for dinner on June 29th, after which they proceeded to the accused's flat where the alleged rape took place. The accused, 25 years old, was apprehended near Sahar airport on Saturday. Authorities are currently investigating whether he was at the airport for work or attempting to flee the city.
In her complaint, the air hostess stated that both she and the accused worked as crew members for the same airline. She recounted that on June 29th, the accused invited her to his home after dinner, an invitation she accepted without suspecting any ill intentions. She stated in her complaint that the flat was empty and that shortly after a brief conversation, the man raped her.
The complainant approached the police on July 18th. While the police have registered the FIR, they are also investigating the reason for the delay in reporting the incident.
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old air hostess accused a colleague, a pilot, of rape at his home in Mira Road near Mumbai. This event reportedly occurred earlier this week, shortly after the pair had traveled together on a flight to London. Upon their return to Mumbai, they traveled together to Mira Road, where they reside separately. The air hostess alleged that the pilot invited her to his place with the understanding that she would return to her own home later. She claimed that upon arrival, she discovered that no one else was present, and the pilot then raped her. A case has been registered at the Navghar police station, and authorities have launched a search for the pilot, who is currently at large.
Another case from April 2025 involved the arrest of a technician at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for the alleged sexual assault of an air hostess who was on a ventilator. The technician, identified as 25-year-old Deepak Kumar, was arrested following an investigation launched after the air hostess, who was in the city for airline training, filed a complaint. Police reports indicated that Kumar was responsible for handling treatment machinery in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where the assault occurred. Authorities also stated that Kumar had allegedly watched pornographic material before and after the crime, a detail confirmed by his mobile phone's search history. He has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
These incidents highlight the vulnerabilities faced by airline staff and the importance of addressing such issues with seriousness and urgency. Law enforcement agencies are committed to protecting airline staff and passengers from any form of sexual harassment or assault.
