The ongoing discord between Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss and his son, party president Anbumani Ramadoss, has escalated as Ramadoss has filed a police complaint against Anbumani. The senior Ramadoss has requested the Director General of Police (DGP) to take measures to prevent Anbumani's planned 100-day statewide tour, which is scheduled to begin on July 25.
Ramadoss stated that Anbumani's "Tamil Nadu People's Rights Retrieval Journey" could potentially cause law and order issues in northern Tamil Nadu. He has also sought to prevent Anbumani from using the PMK flag during the campaign and has stated that Anbumani cannot use his name in any context, though he can use his initial.
The PMK founder has appointed new office bearers and has submitted the list, including the honorary president, treasurer, and general secretary, to the Election Commission of India. He stated that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone who prevents the newly appointed office bearers from performing their duties or falsely claims to be an office bearer.
Anbumani's campaign is scheduled to begin on his father's birthday, which is celebrated by the party as Pasumai Thaayagam Day. The "Tamil Nadu People's Rights Retrieval Journey" aims to advocate for key rights, including social justice, women's safety, employment, good governance, and access to quality health and education services, and is expected to conclude on November 1 in Dharmapuri. The first leg of the yatra, from July 25 to August 4, is planned to cover several Assembly constituencies.
This is not the first sign of discord between father and son. In May 2025, Ramadoss accused Anbumani of failing to lead the party in the right direction. He also stated that Anbumani threw a bottle at his mother during a family discussion. These accusations followed Anbumani's objection to Ramadoss appointing his daughter's son, P. Mukundan, as PMK's youth wing president.
Earlier in July, there were reports of a possible reconciliation between Ramadoss and Anbumani after a complaint was filed on Ramadoss's behalf about the discovery of an audio-tapping device at his home. The complaint suggested that Anbumani might be implicated, prompting mediation efforts.
The current situation, with Ramadoss filing a police complaint against his son, highlights the widening rift within the PMK. This public display of internal conflict raises questions about the future direction of the party and its leadership.
