On Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated annually on July 26th, India commemorates its victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. The day serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and courage of the Indian soldiers who fought valiantly in the icy heights of Kargil.

Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra, who portrayed Captain Vikram Batra in the 2021 film "Shershaah," paid tribute to the Kargil War hero on this significant day. Malhotra shared a picture of Captain Batra on Instagram, honoring the "countless brave hearts who stood tall". He saluted their sacrifice, emphasizing that their spirit lives on in every heartbeat of a proud nation.

Captain Vikram Batra, a celebrated hero of the Kargil War, led his troops from the 13th battalion of the JAKRIF regiment of the Indian Army. He died on July 7, 1999, at the age of 24, while fighting Pakistani forces. Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime gallantry award. He was also known as the 'Tiger of Drass', the 'Lion of Kargil' and 'Kargil Hero'. His victory slogan, "Yeh Dil Mange More," became iconic.

Malhotra's portrayal of Captain Batra in "Shershaah" resonated deeply with audiences, making the film a memorable tribute to the Kargil War hero. The film captured Batra's life, his heroic actions, and his ultimate sacrifice during the war.

Many other Bollywood actors also paid tribute to the armed forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas. Akshay Kumar shared a "Jai Hind" message on his Insta story. Suniel Shetty saluted the courage that echoed through the mountains of Kargil and expressed his eternal indebtedness to the real heroes. Anupam Kher also paid his respects to the Indian Army.

Kargil Vijay Diwas marks the anniversary of the end of 'Operation Vijay' on July 26, 1999, when the Indian Army successfully ousted Pakistani forces from their occupied positions in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. The conflict began in May 1999 when Pakistani troops, disguised as militants, infiltrated key high-altitude locations. The Indian Army launched Operation Vijay to regain control, fighting under harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain.

The main ceremony for Kargil Vijay Diwas 2025 was held at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh, with senior officials and families of martyrs laying wreaths in tribute. Across the nation, ceremonies and events honored the sacrifices made during the war. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu also paid tribute to the soldiers, stating that their dedication and sacrifice would inspire generations. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and top military brass also paid tribute at the National War Memorial.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is a day to remember the courage, valor, and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who ensured India's victory in the Kargil War. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of national pride and unity.
