On a recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Kapil Sharma revealed that Aamir Khan had declined an invitation to appear on the show to promote his latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par. Kapil shared this information while discussing his and his guests’ unique approaches to interviewing celebrities and politicians.
Sitaare Zameen Par, released on June 20, 2025, is a sports comedy-drama directed by R. S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit. Described as a spiritual successor to Aamir Khan's 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, it stars Khan alongside Genelia Deshmukh. The film is an official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions. The plot revolves around Gulshan (Aamir Khan), a suspended basketball coach ordered to perform community service, which involves coaching a team of neurodivergent adults for a special league tournament. The team includes individuals with autism, Down syndrome, and other intellectual disabilities. Gulshan initially is dismissive but learns valuable lessons about life, compassion, and acceptance from the team.
The film has garnered positive reviews from critics, with many praising Aamir Khan's performance. Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave the film 3.5 stars out of 5, noting that Aamir Khan effortlessly embodies a temperamental character often mocked for his stature. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express also gave it 3.5 stars out of 5, mentioning that Aamir Khan's commitment to portraying a flawed hero is crucial to the film's success.
Sitaare Zameen Par has also achieved commercial success, grossing ₹268 crore worldwide and becoming the third highest-grossing Hindi film and the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. Some reviews highlight that although the film may not be as flawless as Taare Zameen Par, it possesses its own unique charm and appeal, marking a redemption for Aamir Khan after his previous film Laal Singh Chaddha.
Kapil Sharma recently attended a musical evening hosted by Aamir Khan at his Mumbai residence to celebrate the upcoming release of Sitaare Zameen Par. The event included interactions between Kapil Sharma and the film's cast, including debutant actors with special needs. Kapil shared a heartwarming video on his Instagram, expressing his gratitude for the memorable experience. Other notable attendees included Ranbir Kapoor, Sachin Tendulkar, and Shankar Mahadevan.
Kapil Sharma is also set to return with the third season of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix. The new season promises to include interactions with superfans and feature Navjot Singh Sidhu filling in for Archana Puran Singh for a special episode.
