Mahavatar Narsimha tells the story of Hiranyakashipu, a demon king who declares himself God. His son, Prahlad, is a devotee of Lord Vishnu and continues to worship him. Angered, Hiranyakashipu punishes Prahlad, but Lord Vishnu protects him each time. Finally, Vishnu appears as Narasimha, a half-lion, half-human form, and kills Hiranyakashipu to restore dharma and protect Prahlad.
