The Rajya Sabha is poised to continue its significant discussions on Operation Sindoor, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Leader of the House JP Nadda scheduled to address the chamber today. Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to deliver the concluding speech, emphasizing India's military actions and diplomatic stance.
EAM Jaishankar is scheduled to commence the debate at 1 PM, followed by JP Nadda around 3 PM. The debate on Operation Sindoor began in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, while the Lok Sabha took up the discussion on Monday. Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Earlier, S Jaishankar and Amit Shah addressed the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Operation Sindoor, outlining India's diplomatic efforts and targeting the Opposition. Jaishankar stated that Indian diplomacy focused on the United Nations Security Council in the aftermath of the attack. He also refuted claims by former US President Donald Trump of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, clarifying that there was no phone call between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi between April 22 and June 17.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that no world leader asked India to halt its military action against Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, which followed the Pahalgam terror attack. He lamented that while the nation received global support, the Congress and its allies did not support the valor of the nation's soldiers.
During the Parliament Monsoon Session on July 29, 2025, JP Nadda defended the Modi government's actions in response to the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. He highlighted the government's commitment to national security and the swift execution of Operation Sindoor, which launched on May 7, 2025, targeting nine terrorist camps across the Line of Control and neutralizing over 100 terrorists. Nadda refuted Congress's allegations of inaction, asserting that the government's decisive military response, including Operation Mahadev, demonstrated India's zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.
Nadda criticized the opposition, particularly Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, for questioning the government's transparency and politicizing the issue. He accused Congress of undermining national interest by demanding proof of Pakistan's involvement. Nadda emphasized the government's openness to a 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam attack and urged the opposition to engage constructively.
The Rajya Sabha witnessed heated exchanges after Nadda made remarks against Kharge, which he later withdrew and apologized for. Kharge also said that Nadda is one of the ministers in the NDA government whom he respected, but said it was a matter of shame that he made such remarks against him and demanded his apology.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh opened the discussion on Operation Sindoor in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, announcing that security forces killed three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack. Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered condolences to the families of the Pahalgam victims in the Lok Sabha, condemning the terror attack.
