Javier Bardem, the Oscar-winning actor and co-star of Brad Pitt in the upcoming film F1, has recently voiced strong opinions regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, describing the situation as a "genocide". His statements have sparked considerable discussion, particularly in light of his high-profile role in the film and his association with other prominent figures in the entertainment industry.

Bardem's outspoken stance includes condemning Israel's actions, asserting that they constitute "crimes against humanity and international law". He has also criticized the international community's response, particularly the support provided by the United States and the silence of Europe, which he believes contributes to a sense of impunity. Bardem argues that this lack of action has fostered a scenario where a genocide is unfolding before the world's eyes.

"The situation in Gaza has come to a term now where I cannot express the pain that I, along with many millions of people there, suffer on a daily basis watching those horrible images of children being murdered and starving to death,” Bardem stated, highlighting the dire humanitarian crisis in the region. He also lamented the blocked aid of medicines, water, and medical supplies.

Bardem's comments were made during an appearance on "The View" on June 16, 2025, where he discussed the importance of using one's platform to speak out on critical issues. He emphasized the need for "decency" and remembering humanity, particularly in the context of the Gaza conflict. Bardem's statements on "The View" were, according to some sources, cut short by a commercial break. He reiterated his sentiments later that evening on the red carpet for F1, stating that "it's a genocide, taking place in front of our eyes in 4K".

Bardem's remarks are not the first time he has spoken out on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In October 2024, he addressed the conflict, condemning the Hamas attacks and the "massive punishment that the Palestinian population is enduring". He called for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and for leaders on both sides to be judged by the International Criminal Court. Bardem has also stressed that criticism of the Israeli government should not be conflated with antisemitism, and that Islamophobia should also be recognized as a serious problem.

The actor's willingness to address such a sensitive and politically charged issue has drawn both praise and criticism. Some have applauded him for using his platform to raise awareness and advocate for human rights. Others have criticized his characterization of the situation and questioned the appropriateness of his comments, especially given his involvement in F1.

F1, in which Bardem stars alongside Brad Pitt, is a sports drama about a veteran Formula One driver who returns to the sport to mentor a young driver and save a struggling team. The film has already had its world premiere and is slated for re-release in IMAX in August 2025.
