The special screening of "Dhadak 2," which is slated to release on August 1, 2025, saw actress Triptii Dimri joined by a special guest: Sam Merchant, sparking considerable buzz. The film, also starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, is directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, in collaboration with Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures.
Triptii Dimri has expressed a deep connection with her character, Vidhi, stating that the role has left a lasting impact on her. In an emotional note shared on Instagram, Dimri wrote, "It's almost time. 'Dhadak 2' is about to be yours, and I'm feeling so many emotions all at once". She further added, "Vidhi is someone who quietly found her way into my heart and never left. Living her story, feeling her love, her confusion, her courage, changed something in me". Dimri also conveyed her gratitude to the entire team, acknowledging their hard work and love poured into the film.
Dimri has also praised her co-star, Siddhant Chaturvedi, calling his performance in "Dhadak 2" the best of his career. She said, "It was honestly wonderful. He's such a dedicated and sincere actor... He's poured his heart and soul into the role. When I watched the film for the first time, I immediately called him and told him, 'This is the best performance of your career so far.' And I truly hope the audience sees that too". Chaturvedi plays Nilesh in the film.
"Dhadak 2" is described as a spiritual sequel to the 2018 film "Dhadak" and a remake of the Tamil film "Pariyerum Perumal". However, it's important to note that it is a standalone love story with new characters and a different narrative. The film has faced some challenges with the Censor Board, with reports of extensive cuts and changes to dialogues and scenes. The CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) reportedly flagged many caste-based dialogues and scenes, leading to approximately 16 cuts. Caste slurs were muted or altered, and a poem by Saint Tulsidas was also changed.
The movie was initially scheduled for release in November 2024 but faced multiple postponements before finally settling on August 1, 2025. The film's makers aim to address identity issues and caste. Triptii Dimri said that the director asked the actors not to watch the original film to keep their performances fresh and authentic.
Given that "Dhadak 2" is a remake of "Pariyerum Perumal," comparisons are inevitable. The original Tamil film is a powerful story about caste, dignity, and survival, following a young Dalit boy's experiences in law college. Expectations are high for "Dhadak 2" to handle the themes of caste and identity with sensitivity and honesty.
