AC Milan and Italian football legend Franco Baresi recently underwent surgery to remove a pulmonary nodule. The 65-year-old, who currently serves as the Honorary Vice President for AC Milan, is reported to be recovering well.

The club released an official statement confirming the successful procedure, which was performed using a minimally invasive surgical technique. The statement also indicated that Baresi will begin a course of immunotherapy as a precautionary measure, as recommended by an oncology specialist.

Following the surgery, Baresi shared a message with his fans, expressing his gratitude for their support. "Dear fans, I just want to let you know that it will take me a little time to get back to full strength," Baresi stated. "Thank you to AC Milan and to all of you for your support. A big hug, with affection".

Franco Baresi is an icon in the world of football, celebrated for his unwavering loyalty and exceptional skills as a defender. He spent his entire 20-year professional career with AC Milan, making his Serie A debut in 1977 at the age of 17. For 15 seasons, he captained the Rossoneri, leading them to unprecedented success both domestically and internationally. Baresi made 716 competitive appearances for AC Milan, scoring 33 goals and providing 24 assists. His trophy cabinet includes six Serie A titles, three European Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, four Italian Super Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups.

Baresi was also an integral part of the Italian national team, earning 81 senior caps. He was a member of the 1982 World Cup-winning squad and captained the team to the 1994 World Cup final, where they narrowly lost to Brazil on penalties.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, Baresi was known for his exceptional leadership, tactical intelligence, and defensive prowess. He primarily played as a sweeper or central defender, known as "Kaiser Franz," in reference to fellow sweeper Franz Beckenbauer. His ability to read the game, organize the defense, and make crucial interceptions made him a formidable opponent for any attacker. Alongside players like Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta and Mauro Tassotti, he formed one of the most legendary defensive lines in football history.

In recognition of his immense contribution to AC Milan, the club retired his number 6 jersey after his final season in 1997. In 1999, he was voted Milan's Player of the Century. Baresi's legacy extends beyond his playing career. Since 2020, he has served as the Honorary Vice President of AC Milan, continuing to represent the club's values and inspire future generations.

The news of Baresi's surgery prompted an outpouring of support from fans and the football community. AC Milan conveyed a message of encouragement through its official channels, stating, "Come on Captain, we're all with you!". Everyone at the club wished Baresi well, wishing for a speedy recovery. His dedication, leadership, and loyalty make him a living symbol of the Rossoneri spirit and an enduring icon in the history of world football.
