In response to intelligence inputs suggesting a potential terror threat, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has placed all Indian airports on high alert. The advisory, issued on August 4, 2025, directs immediate enhancement of surveillance measures across all aviation installations, including airports, airstrips, helipads, flying schools, and training institutes. The heightened security measures will be in effect from September 22 to October 2, 2025.

The BCAS advisory is based on specific intelligence regarding potential threats from terrorists or "anti-social elements". Sources indicate that a Pakistani terror group's activities are the basis for the increased vigilance. The goal of the heightened security is to ensure the safety and security of air travel during this period.

The directive outlines several strict measures to be followed. Airports are instructed to maintain round-the-clock maximum alert status, increasing patrols across terminals, parking areas, perimeter zones, and other vulnerable locations. CCTV surveillance systems must be fully functional and under constant monitoring with control rooms actively monitoring feeds at all times. Access control and ID verification will be strictly enforced for all staff, contractors, and visitors.

The enhanced security measures extend to cargo and mail loaded onto commercial aircraft, for both domestic and international operators. Enhanced screening is compulsory for parcels at every airport, regardless of destination. Airport staff, including airline crew and customer-facing personnel, are being retrained to handle emergencies, defuse anxiety, and coordinate with security without delays.

Travelers are advised to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, such as unattended baggage or unusual behavior. Public announcements will remind passengers to stay vigilant and inform them of the increased security measures.

The BCAS has been working with law enforcement, central security agencies, CISF, and other stakeholders to manage potential threats while minimizing disruption to flight operations. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol stated that strict protocols are in place for managing such threats.

The heightened alert has been communicated to state police departments, airport authorities, and airlines to ensure comprehensive security preparedness across the aviation sector. The increased security measures may cause some delays, but are necessary to ensure the safety of all travelers.
