Faisal Malik, best known for his role in the web series "Panchayat," has recently shared his perspective on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's often controversial social media presence. Malik believes that Kashyap's emotional outbursts are not without reason and stem from his deep commitment to cinema and his refusal to compromise on his creative vision.
Speaking on Siddharth Kannan's podcast, Faisal Malik offered a personal view of Kashyap, explaining that his reactions come from a place of deep emotional investment in his work. According to Malik, Kashyap has dedicated himself to filmmaking, whether it's writing, producing, directing, or mentoring. This dedication, Malik says, is what fuels both his brilliance and his occasional outbursts. He said, "If you look at Anurag Kashyap's work, you will understand why these outbursts happen. He is extremely loyal". Malik also added, "Aur imaandaar aadmi tedha hota hai thoda sa. Satak jata hai,” which translates to "And an honest man is usually a little quirky. He tends to lose his temper sometimes".
Malik emphasized Kashyap's deep-rooted passion for cinema, pointing out that he has not only made iconic films but has also launched the careers of several talented directors who are now thriving in the industry. "He has given several amazing directors to the industry. They are all doing so well today. This proves he is extremely dedicated to cinema," Malik stated. He sees this legacy as a testament to Kashyap's unwavering commitment.
Faisal Malik believes that Kashyap's frustration often surfaces when people try to interfere with his creative process or question his intentions. "Whenever someone wrongs him or wants him to compromise with his craft, woh satak jaate hai," Malik explained. This translates to, "When someone wrongs him or wants him to compromise with his craft, he tends to lose it sometimes".
Malik also highlighted Kashyap's role in changing Bollywood's beauty standards by casting talented actors who may not fit the conventional mold. He stated that Kashyap, along with Ram Gopal Varma, helped break the stereotype that actors need to look a certain way to succeed. "After Ram Gopal Varma, it is Anurag Kashyap who took this forward of working with average-looking people," Malik said. "There was a time when people used to fear that if you don't look a certain way, you cannot be an actor. But, that has changed".
Faisal Malik's connection with Anurag Kashyap goes back to the beginning of his acting career, which started with Kashyap's "Gangs of Wasseypur" in 2012. He deeply appreciates Kashyap's work ethic and knowledge of filmmaking. Speaking highly of the filmmaker, Malik said, "Anurag Kashyap is that rare person who knows what he is making. He knows his work".
