The ongoing counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir continue into August 2025, with a significant operation in the Akhal area of Kulgam entering its tenth day and a fresh encounter breaking out in Kishtwar. These operations highlight the persistent efforts of the Indian Army to maintain peace and security in the region.
In Kulgam's Akhal area, a massive operation was launched last Thursday and has now entered its tenth consecutive day. This extensive operation involves the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and para-commandos. The security forces are utilizing gunship helicopters and drones to aid their efforts in flushing out the terrorists. While the operation has resulted in the elimination of at least one terrorist, it has also led to casualties among the security forces. Two Indian troops who were injured during the operation succumbed to their injuries at a military hospital in Srinagar. The Chinar Corps paid tribute to the soldiers, acknowledging their courage and dedication.
The prolonged operation has created hardships for the local residents, who are facing shortages of food, medicines, and other essential supplies due to the tightened cordon around several localities.
Meanwhile, in Kishtwar, alert Indian Army troops initiated an intelligence-based operation in the Dul area early this morning. This led to the establishment of contact with terrorists, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The operation in Kishtwar is currently underway.
These operations are part of a broader effort by security forces to conduct aggressive counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. In the past couple of weeks, four anti-terror operations have been carried out. Operation Mahadev resulted in the neutralization of three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Indian Army remains on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) and is actively engaged in anti-terrorist operations to maintain stability in the region.
