The advance booking for "War 2," starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has finally commenced in India, generating considerable buzz and crossing ₹2 crore in a day. Despite a relatively slow start in the Telugu market, the film has shown promising initial numbers across Hindi, Tamil, and other formats.
Yash Raj Films (YRF) officially opened the advance bookings on Sunday, August 10, four days before the film's scheduled release on August 14, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend. Hrithik Roshan, one of the film's leading stars, announced the opening of bookings via social media, further amplifying the anticipation surrounding the film.
According to Sacnilk.com, "War 2" had already grossed over ₹2.24 crore in advance bookings by 9 pm on Sunday. This figure includes approximately 9,000 shows in Hindi (across 2D, IMAX, Dolby, 4DX, and other formats), 100 shows in Tamil, and 115 shows in Telugu. Including blocked seats, the numbers are close to ₹7.6 crore.
While the Hindi version is set to release on a massive 5,000 screens across India, a milestone rarely achieved, the Telugu version's advance booking has been surprisingly low, especially considering that the film stars Jr NTR, a popular Telugu actor. The Telugu chunk is approximately ₹70,000. This could be attributed to the limited number of Telugu shows initially available for booking. Bookings for the Hindi version in Telugu states are expected to open on August 11, pending permission for ticket price hikes.
Maharashtra, Delhi, and West Bengal have emerged as the top-performing states in early bookings, demonstrating strong initial interest in the film. The film has also garnered attention in international markets, with advance bookings opening earlier last week.
"War 2" is directed by Ayan Mukerji and is the sixth film in YRF's Spy Universe. It is a sequel to the 2019 film "War" and features Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR in a high-octane action showdown. Kiara Advani also stars in the film.
The film is expected to have one of the widest releases in Hindi across the country. However, "War 2" faces a significant clash at the box office with Rajinikanth's "Coolie," which is also releasing on the same day. As of August 10, "Coolie" has already earned significantly more than "War 2" in advance bookings.
