Brad Pitt has recently opened up about his divorce from Angelina Jolie, marking the first time he has publicly addressed the matter since their settlement was finalized in December 2024, after eight years of legal battles.
In a recent interview with GQ, while promoting his upcoming film "F1," Pitt addressed the prolonged public and legal attention surrounding his personal life. When asked if finalizing the divorce brought a sense of relief, the 61-year-old actor responded, "No, I don't think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
Pitt also reflected on the constant media coverage of his personal life, stating, "My personal life is always in the news. It's been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let's put it that way. It's been an annoyance I've had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do. So, it's always been this kind of nagging time suck or waste of time, if you let it be that." He added, "Mostly I feel pretty… My life is fairly contained. It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am, that, you know, it's like this fly buzzing around a little bit.”
Pitt and Jolie's relationship began after they met on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005. They married in 2014 at their French estate, Château Miraval. However, Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences, days after an alleged incident on a private plane where she accused Pitt of abusive behavior toward her and their six children. Although investigations by the FBI and child services did not result in charges, the divorce proceedings became a drawn-out affair, primarily concerning custody arrangements and property division.
Throughout the lengthy legal process, both Pitt and Jolie remained relatively private about the details. The couple was declared legally single in 2019, but the final settlement on marital and property rights wasn't reached until December 2024.
Jolie's lawyer, James Simon, issued a statement at the time of the finalization, saying, "More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Despite the divorce settlement, legal battles continue over their jointly-owned Château Miraval winery. Pitt sued Jolie in 2022 for selling her stake in the French winery, alleging that she violated an agreement that granted him the right of first refusal.
Currently, Pitt is reportedly dating Ines de Ramon, a jewelry executive. When asked if his public appearance with de Ramon at a Formula One race was a calculated move, Pitt responded, "No, dude, it's not that calculated. If you're living, oh my God, how exhausting would that be? If you're living with making those kinds of calculations? No, life just evolves. Relationships evolve.”
