The Punjabi entertainment industry is in mourning following the death of Jaswinder Bhalla, the acclaimed actor and comedian, at the age of 65. Bhalla passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Fortis Hospital in Mohali.
According to reports, Jaswinder Bhalla suffered a brain stroke on Wednesday evening. He was immediately rushed to Fortis Hospital in Mohali for medical attention. Doctors reported that the actor had lost a significant amount of blood. Despite the medical team's efforts, Bhalla passed away at approximately 4:00 AM on Friday. The news was confirmed by his close friend and colleague, Balmukund Sharma.
Jaswinder Bhalla, often called "Chacha Chatra," was a prominent figure in Punjabi cinema. He was widely recognized and loved for his comedic timing and memorable roles in numerous hit films, including the 'Carry On Jatta' franchise, where he played Advocate Dhillon, 'Mahaul Theek Hai', 'Jatt Airways', and 'Jatt & Juliet 2'. His career began in 1988 with the comedy show 'Chhankata'.
Bhalla's work often touched on social issues such as female foeticide, drugs, and unemployment. However, his satire also stirred controversy at times, as happened with his albums 'Chhankata 2003' and 'Mithe Pochey'.
Beyond his contributions to entertainment, Jaswinder Bhalla was also a respected professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). He retired in 2020 but remained a beloved figure on campus.
The news of Jaswinder Bhalla's death has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, colleagues, and friends. His last rites will be held on August 23 in Mohali.
