Following social media backlash regarding her recent remarks on sexuality, actress Swara Bhasker has updated her X (formerly Twitter) bio, in what appears to be a direct response to the online criticism. The actress's statement suggesting that "all humans are fundamentally bisexual" and her public expression of admiration for politician Dimple Yadav sparked varied reactions across social media platforms.
In an interview with Screen, Swara Bhasker, accompanied by her husband, politician Fahad Ahmad, shared her views on sexuality. "We are all bisexual," she stated. "If you leave people to themselves, we are actually bisexuals, but heterosexuality is an ideology that has been (put in us) culturally for thousands of years. Because that is how the human race will perpetuate, so it has to be the norm". She also revealed that she has a crush on Dimple Yadav, a Lok Sabha MP and the wife of politician Akhilesh Yadav.
These statements quickly drew a flurry of responses online, with some users questioning her perspective on sexuality and heterosexuality. Some netizens found humor in the statement, while others criticized her. One user wrote, "If I understand her correctly, she's saying that we're essentially not designed to eat food but we eat because it will help us perpetually survive". Another user commented, "Ooooo I'm hearing this statement of us been born bisexuals after a good span of over two decades. Being a student of literature and attending various seminars, this used to be the most popular statement we were fed back then. My god this woman is stuck in time".
Bhasker's updated X bio now reads: "Girl crush advocate. Part time actor, full time Twitter pest. Chaos Queen. Shopping my way through the apocalypse. Free Palestine". The addition of "Girl crush advocate" is a clear reference to the social media buzz following her comments about Dimple Yadav. On Friday morning, Swara addressed the backlash on X, formerly known as Twitter. She wrote, “Thought it's time to change the bio (giggling emoji)”.
