Responding to recent escalations in rhetoric between Pakistan and India, BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty issued a strong warning to Pakistan, specifically targeting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Chakraborty's comments came in reaction to Bhutto's statements regarding the Indus Waters Treaty and followed closely after Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir's nuclear threat to India.
Bhutto had warned of war if India alters the Indus Waters Treaty, accusing India of attacking Pakistan and declaring that "every Pakistani is ready to fight a war". He further claimed that Pakistanis were "strong enough for war to reclaim all six rivers" and vowed that the country "will never bow down". Bhutto alleged that diverting Indus River water away from Pakistan would be an attack on the country's history, culture, and civilization, particularly affecting Sindh.
Chakraborty, in a press conference in Kolkata, responded to Bhutto's remarks with a mix of sarcasm and a blunt warning. "Agar aisi baatein karte rahenge aur hamari khopdi sanak gayi toh phir ek ke baad ek BrahMos chalega," Chakraborty stated, suggesting a series of BrahMos missiles would be launched if provoked. The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile that the Indian military has previously used against Pakistan. During the conflict with Pakistan in May, the Indian military used BrahMos missiles to strike the nation under Operation Sindoor.
Adding a bizarre twist to his response, Chakraborty said, "We have also thought of building a dam where 140 crore people will pee. After that, we will open the dam, and a tsunami will occur". He clarified that this remark was directed solely at Bhutto and not at the people of Pakistan. Chakraborty emphasized that he has nothing against the people of Pakistan. He described them as peace-loving.
Tensions between the two nations have been on the rise. India placed the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty "in abeyance" following the Pahalgam terror attack. Bhutto's statements echoed Pakistan's military line, with threats of water warfare and nuclear escalation. Munir had threatened to destroy Indian infrastructure if water flows were reduced and issued a nuclear warning. India dismissed these threats as irresponsible, asserting its commitment to national security and direct bilateral talks.
Chakraborty's comments have sparked varied reactions, with some social media users finding them amusing, while others have questioned his choice of words. The situation remains tense, with both sides trading barbs and warnings.
