Wellgistics Health, Inc. (NASDAQ:WGRX), a company specializing in pharmaceutical distribution and digital prescription routing, has launched its XRP Implementation Program, providing independent pharmacies with access to blockchain-based payments within the prescription drug sector for the first time. The program, powered by Ripple Labs, enables pharmacies to make payments and transfer funds instantly, more cost-effectively, and with greater transparency, eliminating delays, high fees, and reliance on traditional banking and credit card networks.
The XRP Payment Program harnesses the speed, scalability, and low-cost infrastructure of the XRP Ledger to meet the unique demands of the pharmaceutical supply chain. Integrated with RxERP, a serialized pharmaceutical eCommerce and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, the platform delivers real-time, encrypted, and compliant payment processing tailored for independent pharmacies and wholesalers. RxERP manages onboarding, transactions, and reporting for participating pharmacies.
According to Wellgistics, the blockchain solution settles payments in seconds rather than days and operates continuously without banking delays. Payments settle within seconds, and pharmacies can avoid credit card and bank transaction costs. The system offers 24/7 availability, improved cash flow with faster access to working capital, real-time tracking, and eliminates intermediaries, enabling direct transactions between pharmacy and distributor.
Brian Norton, CEO of Wellgistics Health, stated that independent pharmacy owners understand blockchain's transformative potential as it scales across the industry. Tony Madsen, COO of Wellgistics Health, said that the company's vision is to make every aspect of pharmacy payments faster, clearer, and completely frictionless.
Wellgistics Health serves over 6,500 independent pharmacies and over 200 manufacturers nationwide. The company is well-positioned to accelerate adoption of the XRP payment program rapidly and at scale. Pharmacies can enroll in the beta program through the company's website.
The XRP Payment Program has been developed to meet or exceed healthcare and financial regulatory standards, including HIPAA and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements. The system provides secure, traceable transactions while safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining privacy at every stage.
Following the pharmacy rollout, Wellgistics Health will begin onboarding pharmaceutical manufacturers to the XRP platform, expanding capabilities for direct, on-chain transactions. The Company also plans to launch manufacturer-powered Direct-to-Patient (DTP) programs, allowing manufacturers to ship medications directly to patients' homes in collaboration with their community pharmacy and prescribing physicians to ensure clinical continuity and compliance.
Pro-XRP attorney Bill Morgan praised the move as “real utility and use for XRP and the XRPL". He also shared a screenshot from Wellgistics, showing that the program is not a future concept, emphasizing that pharmacies are already being onboarded.
