The buzz around "Thama," the latest installment in Maddock Films' horror-comedy universe, is steadily growing, and actor Abhay Verma, known for his role in "Munjya," is adding to the excitement. Verma's connection to the Maddock universe makes his perspective particularly relevant.
"Thama," billed as a "bloody love story," stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna and delves into the world of vampires. The film also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal. Aditya Sarpotdar, who directed "Munjya," is also directing "Thama". "Thama" is slated for a Diwali 2025 theatrical release.
The teaser for "Thama" offers a glimpse into the film's intriguing plot. It begins with Ayushmann Khurrana's character asking, "Will you be able to live without me for 100 years?" to which Rashmika Mandanna's character replies, "Not even for a moment". The teaser showcases Ayushmann and Rashmika meeting in a mystical forest, dance numbers, and a special performance by Malaika Arora. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays the antagonist, seen criticizing the concept of romance.
Maddock Films has also released first-look posters of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna from "Thama". The poster of Ayushmann features him as Alok, described as "Insaaniyat ki aakhri umeed". Rashmika's poster presents her as Tadaka, "Roshni ki ek hi Kiran".
Abhay Verma starred in "Munjya," which was one of 2024's biggest hits. "Munjya" explores a young man's efforts to rid himself of a lecherous demon and also stars Sharvari. Verma and Sharvari will reprise their roles in a future installment. Sarpotdar has experience in the horror genre, having directed "Zombivli" and "Kakuda".
"Thama" expands the Maddock horror-comedy universe, which includes "Stree," "Bhediya," and "Munjya". Unlike other films in the universe, "Thama" is a romantic film with supernatural elements. The film is set across two time periods, modern India and the ancient kingdom of Vijayanagar, and follows a historian, played by Ayushmann, researching the roots of vampirism in Indian folklore.
Varun Dhawan will make a cameo appearance in "Thama," reprising his role from "Bhediya". "Bhediya" was released on November 25, 2022, and received positive reviews. The film stars Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee, Deepak Dobriyal, and Paalin Kabak. Characters from "Stree" also appeared in "Bhediya," including cameo appearances by Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Aparshakti Khurana.
As audiences await the release of "Thama," the earlier films in the Maddock horror-comedy universe, such as "Stree," "Bhediya," and "Munjya," are available for streaming on JioHotstar and Amazon Prime Video.
