Reema Kagti and Sonakshi Sinha are set to collaborate once again for the highly anticipated second season of the crime thriller "Dahaad". Sources close to the development have revealed that Kagti has finalized the screenplay for "Dahaad 2," and the project is expected to commence filming in December 2025.
The first season of "Dahaad," which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in May 2023, marked Sonakshi Sinha's debut in the world of web series. The series, directed by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, garnered immense appreciation and critical acclaim for its gripping storyline and stellar performances. "Dahaad" also made history as the first Indian web series to premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it competed for the Berlinale Series Award.
In "Dahaad," Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of SI Anjali Bhaati, a tough and determined police officer. The series followed Anjali's investigation into the disappearance of 27 women in Rajasthan, eventually leading her to uncover a chilling series of murders inspired by the real-life crimes of Mohan Kumar, also known as Cyanide Mohan. The show also featured Vijay Varma as the main antagonist, Anand Swarnakar, along with Sohum Shah and Gulshan Devaiah in pivotal roles.
According to reports, Sonakshi Sinha is excited to revisit her character as the tough cop in the upcoming season. While Sinha's return as SI Anjali Bhaati has been confirmed, the casting for other characters is currently underway. Similar to the first season, "Dahaad 2" will feature a strong actor as the primary antagonist. Gulshan Devaiah, who played Inspector Devi Lal Singh in the first season, also hinted at his return by jokingly asking, "Now… where did I keep that uniform?" on his Instagram story.
Reema Kagti, known for writing films like "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara," "Dil Dhadakne Do," and shows like "Made In Heaven" and "Dahaad," is also the mind behind the critically acclaimed film "Superboys of Malegaon". After the release of "Superboys of Malegaon", Kagti has dived into writing the next chapter of "Dahaad".
"Dahaad 2" is expected to be a topical action thriller set against the backdrop of Indian society. Prime Video is aiming to mount the show on a grand scale, considering the immense praise and success garnered by the first season. The new season will premiere on Amazon Prime Video.
