Punjab Police have arrested two individuals, including a woman, for their alleged involvement in espionage activities linked to a Pakistani official stationed at the High Commission in New Delhi. The arrests were made based on credible intelligence suggesting the suspects were leaking sensitive information to a Pakistan-based handler.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, revealed that the suspects have been identified as 31-year-old Guzala and Yameen Mohamad, both residents of Malerkotla. Guzala was initially apprehended for leaking sensitive information regarding Indian Army movements to a handler in Pakistan. Subsequent interrogation of Guzala led to the identification and arrest of Yameen Mohamad, who is believed to be a key intermediary in the espionage network. Police teams have recovered two mobile phones from their possession.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were receiving payments through online transactions in exchange for the classified information. They maintained frequent contact with their handler and were involved in channeling funds to other local operatives as per the handler's instructions. According to Malerkotla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gagan Ajit Singh, Guzala confessed to sharing confidential information about Indian Army activities with the Pakistani official posted at the High Commission in New Delhi. She also revealed that she received ₹30,000 in two UPI transactions from the official. The Pakistani official has been identified as Danish. An FIR has been registered, and Danish has been named as an accused.

The police have registered an FIR under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with acts endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India, and Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, which address offences and punishments related to spying. Both Guzala and Yameen are currently in police custody.

This operation is viewed as a significant step in dismantling cross-border espionage networks, reaffirming the Punjab Police's dedication to national security. DGP Yadav stated that further investigation will be conducted following established protocols, focusing on tracing the financial trail and identifying additional operatives and linkages within the network.

The arrest of Guzala and Yameen follows another recent case where Amritsar Rural Police arrested two individuals, Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih, for allegedly leaking sensitive information and photographs of Army cantonment areas and Air Bases to Pakistan's intelligence agency. These developments highlight the ongoing efforts by Pakistani intelligence agencies to gather information about Indian military installations and activities.
