Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) on Thursday, June 12, 2025, operations at the airport were temporarily suspended. The incident involved a Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick, carrying 242 passengers and crew. The crash occurred in the Meghaninagar area, near the airport, prompting an immediate emergency response.

In the wake of the incident, both IndiGo and SpiceJet issued travel advisories to passengers. IndiGo, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledged the impact on flight operations due to runway restrictions and expressed their thoughts for those affected. The airline offered impacted passengers the option to rebook their tickets or claim a full refund through their website, with teams on standby to provide support. Similarly, SpiceJet announced the suspension of all operations at Ahmedabad Airport until further notice, advising passengers to check their flight status online and stay tuned for updates.

The SVPIA spokesperson confirmed the temporary suspension of all flight operations and advised passengers to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates before heading to the airport. Air India also released a statement confirming the incident and stating that they were gathering details and would share updates as soon as possible. They established a dedicated passenger hotline, 1800 5691 444, to provide information.

However, later in the day, the airport resumed operations. The Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed that Ahmedabad Airport was operational again. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced that scheduled flight operations had resumed since 4:05 PM IST, recommending that travelers check flight status directly with their airline and monitor the airline's websites for further updates.

The swift response from airlines and airport authorities aimed to minimize disruption and provide support to affected passengers during this difficult time.
