In a shocking incident in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, a woman was allegedly held against her will for five hours by employees of a private bank because her husband had failed to pay an installment on a group loan. The incident occurred in the Moth area, where staff from the private bank allegedly detained the woman at the branch.
Ravindra Verma, a resident of Babai Road, had taken a loan of ₹40,000 from the bank, with monthly installments of ₹2,120. According to reports, when Verma failed to deposit an installment, bank employees forcibly held his wife, Pooja Verma, at the bank from 12 pm onwards. They allegedly told her that she would not be allowed to leave until her husband paid the outstanding amount.
The husband told the police that he pleaded with the bank employees to release his wife, explaining his inability to pay the installment at that time. However, his appeals were ignored, and the bank staff allegedly continued to pressure him for the money. Frustrated and left with no other option, he contacted the police.
Upon receiving the information, the Police Response Vehicle (PRV) arrived at the scene. Seeing the police, the bank employees were taken by surprise and immediately released the woman. During initial questioning, the bank staff claimed that the woman was at the bank voluntarily and that her husband had gone to arrange the funds for the installment.
Subsequently, the police took Pooja Verma and her husband to the Moth police station, along with the bank employees, to record their statements. Pooja Verma submitted a written complaint to the police, recounting her ordeal. She also accused the bank staff of embezzlement in the loan amount.
Meanwhile, the bank manager, Arjun, stated that the installments had not been paid for the past seven months, which prompted them to call her. He also claimed that the woman was at the branch of her own accord. The police are currently investigating the matter.
