Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, has pledged its "unconditional support" to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. The announcement was made by Shinde during his visit to New Delhi on Wednesday. This move reinforces the long-standing alliance between Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), potentially influencing other alliance partners and increasing the BJP's chances of securing the constitutional position. The election for the Vice-Presidential post is scheduled for September 9, following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar last month.

Shinde, accompanied by Shiv Sena MPs, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Following the meeting, Shinde addressed the media, highlighting the enduring partnership between Shiv Sena and the BJP. He emphasized that Shiv Sena remains one of the oldest and most trusted allies of the NDA. Shinde noted that the alliance between Shiv Sena and BJP predates the formation of the NDA, marking 25 years of collaboration envisioned by Balasaheb Thackeray. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde attended the NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.

Shinde also took the opportunity to congratulate Amit Shah on becoming the longest-serving Home Minister in India, completing an uninterrupted term of 2,258 days. He lauded Shah's leadership, particularly in abrogating Article 370, fulfilling Bal Thackeray's dream, and effectively curbing terrorism and Naxalism. Shinde credited Shah's "unwavering commitment and visionary leadership" for his exemplary contributions to cooperative development and national security.

Furthermore, Shinde addressed claims of discord with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, refuting any strains in their relationship. He affirmed their collaborative efforts for the development of Maharashtra. Shinde also confirmed that the Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, will contest the upcoming local body elections together. He expressed confidence that the Mahayuti alliance would replicate its success in the Assembly elections by winning the local body polls as well.

In addition to political matters, Shinde addressed the issue concerning the elephant Madhuri, stating that the state government, in collaboration with Vantara, will file a review petition in the Supreme Court, respecting the sentiments of the people.
