An IndiGo flight en route from Dibrugarh to Guwahati, carrying Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was diverted to Agartala on Sunday, August 24, 2025, due to adverse weather conditions in Guwahati. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) confirmed the diversion.
IndiGo had earlier issued a travel advisory, highlighting the impact of persistent rainfall and thunderstorms on flight operations in Guwahati. The airline stated that teams were closely monitoring the situation to ensure the journey would resume as soon as conditions improved. They recommended that passengers check their flight status on the IndiGo website or app before leaving for the airport and allow for extra travel time due to potentially slower road conditions.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati had issued a yellow alert for the Assam capital, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
A week prior to this incident, another Dibrugarh-bound flight from Guwahati experienced a "misapproach" during landing, causing concern among passengers, including state minister Bimal Borah. Borah stated that he was told it was a "misapproach" and speculated that another flight might have been on the runway, preventing their landing. The flight eventually landed safely on its second attempt.
IndiGo clarified that the diversion was solely due to weather-related issues and that no technical problems were involved.
