In a shocking incident in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, a man allegedly murdered his mother with an axe on Tuesday morning. The accused, identified as 28-year-old Jeet Ram Yadav, reportedly hacked his 59-year-old mother, Gulabai, to death around 5 a.m. in the Bendrerbhadra settlement of Kunkuri.
Neighbors were horrified to witness Yadav sitting near his mother's corpse, singing songs in anger and playing with sand. According to witnesses, Yadav struck his mother repeatedly with the axe until she died on the spot. He then remained seated near the body, brandishing the axe and threatening anyone who tried to approach.
Family members and neighbors raised an alarm, but no one dared to intervene due to Yadav's aggression. The Kunkuri police were informed, and they arrived to find hundreds of locals gathered outside the house. It took the police nearly four hours to negotiate with and eventually overpower Yadav.
Jashpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashimohan Singh stated that the exact cause of the incident is still unknown. However, preliminary investigations suggest that Yadav may be suffering from an unstable mind. Family members reported that Yadav's mental health had deteriorated over the past two years, and he had been receiving treatment from traditional healers, locally known as baigas.
Police have registered a case, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the crime. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents expressing their disbelief and horror. A video purportedly showing Yadav playing in the sand and singing near his mother's body has surfaced online.
