Kid Cudi, the multi-platinum rapper, singer, and actor, has recently opened up about his past struggles with marijuana addiction and how it significantly impacted his life. In a recent interview with People, the 41-year-old artist, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, revealed that he sought rehabilitation in November 2024 to address his marijuana usage. This revelation coincides with the release of his new memoir, "Cudi: The Memoir," where he delves into various aspects of his life, including love, loss, addiction, and his journey through rehabilitation.

Cudi confessed that his marijuana use had escalated to a point where it "truly ruled my life". He admitted to smoking approximately 15 blunts a day, starting from the moment he woke up. This heavy consumption led him to a point where he recognized the need to re-evaluate his relationship with the substance.

Following his return to rehab, Cudi abstained from marijuana for two months. After this period, he decided to reintroduce it into his life but with significant moderation. Now, he says he typically uses marijuana only at night or on weekends when he has free time to relax. He also noted a significant decrease in his consumption, stating that a single joint can last him almost an entire day.

Cudi emphasized that he is now "more interested in being sober a lot more and being more present". This shift in perspective has had a positive impact on various aspects of his life, particularly his acting career. He recounted how, in the past, he often felt "blitzed out of my mind" during on-screen appearances. However, his newfound sobriety has allowed him to experience acting in a completely different light.

He shared that while filming a movie over the summer, he was able to connect with his emotions more deeply, making it easier to cry during emotional scenes. He believes that achieving this level of emotional depth would have been impossible if he were still heavily using marijuana.

Cudi, who once rapped about being a "lonely stoner" in his 2008 hit single "Day 'n' Nite," has observed positive changes in his life since re-examining his marijuana use. He highlighted that, in the past, he smoked so much that he "wasn't really getting high". While acknowledging that people have appreciated his acting for years, he believes that being sober on set brings a different quality to his performances, allowing him to fully feel and express the emotions required for the role.

Cudi's journey reflects a broader theme of self-discovery and growth. He believes that even in moments of seeming despair, there are valuable lessons to be learned. His memoir, "Cudi: The Memoir," is available through Simon & Schuster and further explores these themes, highlighting how adjusting his relationship with marijuana has enabled him to be more present and purposeful in his life and career.
