A cloudburst in the Rajgarh tehsil of Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in at least three fatalities and left two people missing. The incident occurred early Saturday morning in the remote Drubla Natna area of Rajgarh.

Officials reported that the cloudburst triggered flash floods that damaged property and disrupted normal life. Two houses and a school building were hit by the cloudburst. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the affected area to conduct search and rescue operations.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescue teams were immediately sent to the area to conduct rescue operations. Efforts are underway to provide immediate relief to the families of the victims.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been damaged, causing traffic disruptions. Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma stated that the NH-44 is closed and may open by the evening of August 30, 2025, or by the next morning. He also mentioned significant damage in Poonch due to rainfall and efforts to clear the Mughal Road for essential commodities transport.

The local administration has launched rescue and relief operations. Teams have been dispatched to trace the missing people and assist the residents.

Heavy rain has battered Jammu and Kashmir in recent days, leading to multiple cloudbursts and flash floods. A cloudburst was reported in the Gurez Sector of Bandipora district on Friday, but no loss of life was reported.

In light of the severe conditions, all government and private schools across the Jammu division remained closed until August 30. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning was issued for Poonch, Reasi, Rajouri, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts on Friday. An orange alert, indicating the possibility of heavier rainfall, has been issued for Saturday and Sunday in Poonch, Kishtwar, Jammu, Ramban, and Udhampur.

Ramban is located approximately 136 km from Srinagar.
