In a new twist to the Sheena Bora murder case, Indrani Mukerjea's daughter, Vidhie Mukerjea, has made startling allegations in court, claiming that her mother was left financially vulnerable after Peter Mukerjea's sons, Rahul and Rabin Mukerjea, siphoned off her ancestral jewelry and a substantial sum of money. Vidhie testified before a special CBI court, asserting that Rahul and Rabin siphoned off Indrani's ancestral jewelry worth crores of rupees and over ₹7 crore from bank accounts and lockers held jointly with Peter Mukerjea. She also disowned her book, 'Devil's Daughter', claiming it was written under the "wrong influence".
Vidhie stated that these actions occurred shortly after Indrani's arrest in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case. She claimed Rahul and Rabin were in dire need of money at the time and that the motive behind their actions was to falsely implicate Indrani and ensure she would not be able to come out of prison. Vidhie said that Indrani was left with no money to defend herself after her arrest. She, however, did not know how they acquired the bank details and passwords etc to gain access.
Adding another layer to the allegations, Vidhie claimed that after Indrani's arrest, she was pressured to choose sides, and Rabin threatened her that if she refuses to be on their side, she would be left to survive on her own. She managed with Peter's support initially, but after his arrest, things worsened. Vidhie also accused Peter Mukerjea's sons Rahul and Rabin of siphoning her mother's assets. She claimed that within 15 days of Indrani's arrest, ancestral jewellery worth crores of rupees and over Rs 7 crore in bank savings were taken. She believes this happened with Peter's knowledge and consent.
Vidhie further testified that statements attributed to her in the CBI's chargesheet were "forged and fabricated". She said she was asked to sign blank pages by the police and that the ink of her signature and the date mentioned below it were different, indicating manipulation. She claimed that the information written down by the officers was not based on her own personal information and knowledge but gathered or 'fed to them' by persons accompanying her. She also denied having given any statements to either Khar police station or CBI and said her formal statement was never taken down.
Vidhie also told the court that she was "bombarded with lies and false accusations" against her mother by Rahul Mukerjea. She also stated that she wrote a book titled 'Devil's Daughter' during that traumatic time, under the wrong influence of the false accusations and false media reports. She said she did not stand by the contents of the book, published in 2021, and added that she would not have written the book if she could go back in time.
The Sheena Bora murder case revolves around the disappearance and subsequent murder of Sheena Bora in 2012. Indrani Mukerjea, Sheena's mother, is the prime accused in the case. The case also involves other accused, including Indrani's former husband, Sanjeev Khanna, and her then-husband, Peter Mukerjea. The CBI alleges that Indrani, along with Khanna and Peter, conspired to murder Sheena due to her relationship with Rahul Mukerjea, Peter's son from his first marriage, fearing a potential property dispute.
