The Meghalaya Police have filed a 790-page chargesheet in the sensational honeymoon murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman. The chargesheet was submitted to the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Sohra. The prime accused in the case is Raja's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, along with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, and three others who were allegedly hired as hitmen. The incident occurred during the couple's honeymoon in Sohra, Meghalaya, in May.

The chargesheet names eight individuals in total, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, Akash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and three others. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal conspiracy to murder Raja Raghuvanshi and for the destruction of evidence. Specifically, Sonam, Kushwaha, Rajput, Chauhan, and Kurmi face charges under sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (a) (disappearance of evidence), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS.

Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam traveled to Shillong on May 21 before heading to Sohra. On May 26, they were reported missing, which led to a large-scale search operation. Raja's body was eventually discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge near the Wei Sawdong Falls in Sohra.

According to the police investigation, Sonam was in a relationship with Raj Kushwaha, and the two allegedly plotted to kill Raja under the guise of a honeymoon. The three hired assailants, Akash Singh Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi, allegedly carried out the murder in Sonam's presence. Within a week of the investigation, five of the accused, including Sonam, were located and arrested in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Following the filing of the chargesheet, Raja Raghuvanshi's family in Indore has demanded the death penalty for Sonam and the other accused. Raja's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, stated that the family is satisfied with the police investigation and believes the charges against the accused are strong. He also alleged that Sonam's brother, Govind, despite initially offering support to Raja's family, hired a lawyer to defend Sonam.

Authorities initially treated the case as a missing persons investigation after Raja, 29, and Sonam, 24, disappeared. However, the case took a turn when Sonam surrendered at a police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8, after the other accused were arrested.

SP Vivek Syiem stated that a supplementary chargesheet will be submitted against three more individuals—Silome James, Lokendra Tomar, and Balbir Ahirbar—after additional forensic reports are received. These three were arrested for allegedly helping to destroy and conceal evidence and are currently out on bail.
