Girish Kumar, the actor who debuted in Bollywood with the 2013 romantic comedy Ramaiya Vastavaiya opposite Shruti Haasan, has taken a different path since his time in the spotlight.
Ramaiya Vastavaiya, directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Girish's father, Kumar S. Taurani, who is the managing director of Tips Industries Limited, was a remake of a popular Telugu film. The film, though only an average performer at the box office, was noted for its emotional storyline and popular music, particularly the song "Jeene Laga Hoon". Girish received nominations for Best Debut for his performance in the film.
To prepare for his role, Kumar underwent a strict training and diet regimen for three years to build the physique required for the film, and he also learned surfing. Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama noted that "Girish being a first-timer, there are some rough edges, but the fact is, he's photogenic and goes through the rigmarole with confidence". However, other critics were less favorable.
In 2016, Girish starred in Loveshhuda, a romantic comedy alongside Navneet Kaur Dhillon. The film did not fare well with critics or at the box office. Following this, Girish stepped away from acting.
Born into the Taurani family, Girish is the son of producer Kumar S Taurani and nephew of Ramesh S Taurani, both co-founders of Tips Industries. After leaving acting, Girish joined the family business. Today, he serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tips Industries, working alongside his father and uncle.
Tips Industries has seen considerable financial success, with a market value of Rs 8,533.40 crore as of June 24, 2025. The company's market capitalization had already surpassed Rs 10,500 crore in 2024. As COO, Girish has played a significant role in this growth.
