Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a substantial relief package of ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, which has been severely affected by recent floods, rains, and landslides. The announcement was made on September 9, 2025, following the Prime Minister's visit to the state to assess the damage.

During his visit, PM Modi conducted an aerial survey of the flood-ravaged areas, including Chamba, Bharmour, and Kangra. He then chaired a high-level meeting in Kangra to review the relief and rehabilitation measures being undertaken.

In addition to the ₹1,500 crore financial assistance, PM Modi also announced an ex gratia of ₹2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster and ₹50,000 for the injured. The relief package includes the advance release of the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and support under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to a multi-dimensional approach to address the crisis. This includes rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, rebuilding schools, and providing relief under the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Mini kits will also be provided for livestock. Special support will be extended to farmers, particularly those without electricity connections. Geotagging of damaged houses will be done to ensure accurate damage assessment and faster delivery of aid.

PM Modi met with affected families, expressing his condolences and assuring them of the government's support during these difficult times. He also met with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army, and Aapda Mitra volunteers, appreciating their efforts in the immediate relief and rescue operations.

The central government has already dispatched Inter-Ministerial teams to Himachal Pradesh to assess the extent of the damage. Further assistance will be provided based on their recommendations. PM Modi assured that all possible measures would be taken to restore infrastructure, support agriculture, ensure uninterrupted education, and rebuild the lives of the affected people. Schools will be able to report and geotag damages, enabling timely assistance under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Recharge structures for water harvesting will be constructed to improve groundwater levels and support better water management.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu welcomed the Prime Minister's visit and acknowledged the immense loss and devastation the state has suffered. He also urged for a national-level policy dialogue on sustainable development in the Himalayas, considering the impact of climate change.
