The Vaishno Devi Yatra is set to resume on September 14, 2025, after a 19-day suspension following a deadly landslide. The pilgrimage to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, located in the Trikuta hills of Jammu and Kashmir, was halted on August 26 after a cloudburst triggered a landslide near Adhkuwari. The incident resulted in the loss of 34 lives and left 20 others injured.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDB) announced the resumption of the Yatra, contingent upon favorable weather conditions. The board posted on X, "Jai Mata Di! The Vaishno Devi Yatra will resume from September 14 (Sunday), subject to favourable weather conditions". Officials stated that the suspension was necessary due to harsh weather and to allow for essential repairs to the pilgrimage route. Restoration work has been underway to clear debris and secure the routes.

The SMVDB has urged pilgrims to carry valid identification, adhere to designated pathways, and cooperate with on-ground staff. RFID-based tracking will remain mandatory for transparency and traceability. Devotees can visit the Shrine Board's official website for live updates, booking services, and helpline support.

The 19-day suspension was the longest break in the Yatra since the COVID-19 shutdown. The prolonged suspension had disappointed devotees and caused hardship to local businesses dependent on the pilgrimage. The Shrine Board expressed gratitude to devotees for their patience and understanding during the suspension. A spokesperson said, "The resumption of the Yatra marks a reaffirmation of our collective faith and resilience. The Board remains committed to upholding the sanctity, safety, and dignity of this revered pilgrimage".

Following the August 26 landslide, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha constituted a high-level, three-member committee to investigate the causes of the disaster. The committee is headed by Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Jal Shakti, Jammu and Kashmir, and includes the Divisional Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police, Jammu. They are expected to submit a comprehensive report to LG Sinha.

With the Yatra set to resume, authorities have emphasized enhanced safety measures, including mandatory identification checks and adherence to designated pathways. The Board continues to prioritize safety as pilgrims navigate the restored pathways.
