Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that the North East region is pivotal to realizing the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India), emphasizing that the 21st century's progress hinges significantly on the East and North East. During his recent visit to Assam and Manipur, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth thousands of crores, signaling a strong commitment to the region's growth.

Modi asserted that the BJP government is dedicated to transforming the North East, which had previously faced neglect for decades. He highlighted that the region's time has come, particularly for its youth, to seize opportunities and contribute to India's development. He stressed the need to make Assam and the North-East the growth engine of a Viksit Bharat.

The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of infrastructure and industrial development projects worth over ₹18,530 crore in Assam. These projects encompass various sectors, including connectivity and healthcare. He also launched development projects worth ₹6500 crore in Darrang, Assam, further emphasizing the double-engine government's commitment to expanding connectivity and healthcare in the region.

In Manipur, Modi inaugurated 17 projects worth around ₹1,200 crore in Imphal, marking his first visit to the state since the ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. He also laid the foundation stone for projects worth ₹7,300 crore in Churachandpur, a district significantly affected by the violence. Addressing a public meeting in Imphal's Kangla Fort, Modi stressed the importance of building trust between the people of the hills and the valley, stating that his government is working relentlessly for reconciliation and development in the state.

During his visit, Modi paid tribute to the legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika, emphasizing the need to build bridges and be compassionate, echoing the maestro's compositions. He underscored the lessons of humanity in Hazarika's songs and highlighted the importance of taking development to the remotest corners of the country, which he sees as a cornerstone of the 'Viksit Bharat' vision.

Modi also stated that India has given a strong response to terrorist actions, with its strength being heard globally and that New India will never compromise on its security or self-respect. He accused the Congress party of protecting infiltrators and prioritizing vote-bank politics, while asserting that the Centre and state government are developing Assam as a health hub.

The Prime Minister's focus on the North East underscores the region's strategic importance and its potential to drive India's growth in the 21st century. By prioritizing infrastructure development, connectivity, and healthcare, the government aims to unlock the region's economic potential and integrate it further into the national economy. Modi's emphasis on peace, reconciliation, and inclusive governance in Manipur reflects a commitment to addressing the challenges posed by ethnic violence and ensuring that the state can move forward on a path of sustainable development.
