Hannah Einbinder, the star of "Hacks," won her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. However, her acceptance speech was partially censored during the live broadcast due to a bold political statement.

Einbinder began her speech with humor, joking about her previous Emmy losses. "I was just really committed to the personal narrative that I had that it was actually cooler to continue to lose," she said. "But this is cool too! This is also punk rock". She then thanked the "Hacks" creators, Jen Statsky, Paul W. Downs, and Lucia Aniello, "for changing my life in every conceivable way, but not just by giving me a great gig, but by being my friends and being my family". Einbinder also praised her co-star Jean Smart, calling her "like a sun" and adding, "I just get to stand in her warmth".

After these heartfelt acknowledgments, Einbinder gave a shout-out to her NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles. It was after this that she made the statement that triggered the censor. "Go Birds, f*** ICE and free Palestine," Einbinder declared. While "Free Palestine" was audible, the expletive targeting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was bleeped out on the broadcast.

The censoring of Einbinder's speech sparked immediate reaction online, with many discussing the decision to censor her explicit criticism of ICE. Einbinder is known to be a supporter of Palestinian rights. She was among thousands of industry figures who signed an open letter refusing to work with Israeli institutions and film companies "implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people".

Einbinder was also seen wearing a red Artists4Ceasefire pin, a symbol advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. In March 2025, the Human Rights Campaign recognized her with a Visibility Award for her LGBTQ+ representation. At the HRC ceremony, she stated, “As a queer person, as a Jewish person and as an American, I am horrified by the Israeli government’s massacre of well over 65,000 Palestinians in Gaza".

During the broadcast, host Nate Bargatze had instituted a 45-second time limit for acceptance speeches, with a penalty of $1,000 deducted from a $100,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club for every second over. Einbinder, aware of exceeding her allotted time, quipped that she would "pay the difference". Bargatze later clarified that the money wouldn't come from his own pocket and joked about starting a "swear jar".
