In a recent incident in Telangana, a pregnant woman had to be carried in a 'doli' (makeshift stretcher) due to the lack of road connectivity to her village. The tribal woman, Kattam Koosi from Kokkadapadu village in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district, experienced labor pains and needed to be transported to a medical facility.

Due to the absence of proper roads and a severely damaged pathway, an ambulance could not reach her village. The nearest medical facility, the Satyanarayanapuram Primary Health Centre (PHC), was approximately 10-20 kilometers away. Faced with this challenge, villagers constructed a makeshift stretcher to carry Kattam Koosi. Two men from her family carried her on their shoulders for about 20 kilometers through a forest stretch to reach the Satyanarayanapuram Primary Health Centre. In another report, it was mentioned that they carried her on foot for about five kilometers until they reached Bodhnappaly village, where they were able to transfer her to an auto for further transport to the hospital.

After being examined at the Satyanarayanapuram PHC, doctors decided to transfer her to Bhadrachalam Government Hospital for delivery and arranged for an ambulance. According to officials, both the mother and baby are healthy and will be discharged soon.

This is not an isolated incident. A similar case occurred in the same district in 2020, where a tribal woman, Kovvasi Ithe, delivered her baby in the forest while being transported to the hospital in a 'doli'. In October 2022, another tribal woman gave birth to a newborn boy in a 'doli' in the forest of G Madugula Mandal in the ASR district due to a lack of road connectivity. Furthermore, another incident took place in Andhra Pradesh last year, where a pregnant woman from Jajulabandha village had to be carried in a 'doli' to Arla village because of the absence of proper roads.

These incidents highlight the challenges faced by people in remote tribal villages due to lack of infrastructure. The lack of proper road connectivity hinders access to essential services such as healthcare, especially during emergencies like childbirth.

While the Telangana government is focusing on modern development, such as building a "Vaastu-perfect ultra modern secretariat" in Hyderabad, these incidents expose the stark reality of inadequate infrastructure in remote areas. It emphasizes the urgent need for the government and authorities to address the issue of road connectivity in these areas to ensure that basic healthcare facilities are accessible to everyone.
